The Italian Baroque Academy was founded in 2013 in Piacenza by an ambitious group of musicians who had many years’ experience performing in the baroque orchestra “I Virtuosi delle Muse”, where they had gained an invaluable wealth of experience and developed an unmistakable interpretative approach.
The musicians’ aim is to build on the experience they have gained, combined with a desire for innovation. This interpretative foundation, based on an historical and philological approach, has led the orchestra to tremendous successes in the leading concert halls of Europe and North America, including the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Theater an der Wien, Opéra Royal in Versailles, Schwetzingen Festival, Prinzregententheater in Munich, Opéra de Nantes, Théâtre d’Orléans,
Corum di Montpellier, the Miami Bach Society and many other venues. Recognition for the group has been reflected by renowned recording prizes and praise from critics for recordings such as “Sinfonie d’Opera” and “Viaggio a Venezia” (“5 stars” from the music magazines Goldberg, Crescendo Premium, Early Music and Musica).
Apart from the standard repertoire, the Italian Baroque Academy specialises in exploring classical themes of the Italian and German Baroque in depth, with a particular emphasis on sacred and secular vocal repertoire (opera, cantata, oratorio), as well as less well-known areas of music and seldom-performed treasures such as the sacred music of central and northern Germany.
The Italian Baroque Academy is directed by the Italian harpsichord player and organist Stefano Molardi.
